Painting with colours

Paintings
Bird: the first one. I did it properly for this one.  I blocked in the colours and did the background first.

This was the first painting we did. My first version didn't block it out and the background wasn't done beforehand. However the second time when I did it I did learn a lot about when colours are next to eachother.

Painting one: romantic.
When making this I had the standard image of warm reads and pinks being romantic, but I tried out some bit of blue to see what it would do. I had the image of bright baby blue as I thought it was sometimes associated with romance.

Painting two: Horrific.
I thought of some of the old romantic landscapes from Casper Freidrich like his Abbey in thr Oakwood and Two Men By The Sea. The use of Browns and dark, cold colours makes me feel uneasy and scared, whilst his other works are rather bright and magnificent these two seem to be more gothic than his other paintings.

Life Drawing.

When doing the movement ones I did tend to struggle with keeping at the same position as the model would move, thankfully he would repeat the position regularly so I just had to be patient. It helped me learn how to watch people when doing my self studies.

The Silouettes were really helpful. Proportions were always my weakness when drawing or painting quickly (I would normally take a long time just to check or redo proportions in previous work). so to do a silouette helped me consider the positive and negative space of the figure.

The line of action drawings. I didn't do them too well as I went in drawing guns ablazing. I should have instead looked at individual points of movement and draw their line of movement once at a time whilst studying them.

Cross cutting ones where we had to do only one line. I struggled with them to begin with but I found that I had to pay some attention to the chalk and the paper sometimes. Looking at the model all the time isn't helpful.

Lining out the positions of body parts. This is where we lined out the length of the subject, where the body and waist was, where the hands were, shoulders, head, etc. These were okay bur I walway tend to make the length of the whole subject a little bit too short or long. It helped out a lot in the self studies though,
